Every New Years Eve, people contemplate what resolutions they'll choose as personal goals for the New Year. Now as you've probably heard already, 99.56% of New Years resolutions don't last past the first couple of months. Ok, so maybe I made that up, but we all know that most resolutions have the lifespan of a fruit fly often because the goals are too big, or that we try to do them on our own. I know I've fallen trap to this multiple times.
But that's why I'm excited to share with you what some of my family and friends have decided to do--- because we're doing it together! The goal isn't extraordinarily large, but simply to 'get better'. We all found a commonality in wishing some part of our sketching skills were better than they are. So we've decided to do something about it.
Everyday, we're choosing an object/word that we'll use as a theme in our sketch. We all have different goals based on the type of sketch exercise we're doing; drawing, hand-drawn type, logos, or graffiti-style sketching. We've each chosen a specific but different area to focus on.
It's been fun so far, and because it's just a sketch we haven't had to dedicate an unreasonable amount of time to it each day, making it much easier to keep up with the resolution. I think it'll be great to see how I progress personally, but I'm just as excited to watch the progress everyone else makes.
If you want to follow along or, better yet join us, just follow or tweet your sketches using #40hunsketch2015 on twitter. Each day we try to post the "word of the day" around noon CST on my family's Twitter account, https://twitter.com/40hundred. (Also, feel free to check out my family's website www.40hundred.com for other miscellaneous articles and stories!)
So is there anything you'd like to get better at? Or maybe you want to join in the fun and do some sketching, or perhaps something completely different. No matter what, I encourage you to keep improving, share your resolutions with others to help stick with it, and have fun.
